Southern Frontiers:
Mapping Myths and Realities
Join us in Hobart for Southern Frontiers—an interdisciplinary conference bringing together scholars, cartographers, historians, collectors, and mapping professionals to explore how cartography has shaped exploration and knowledge of the Southern Hemisphere, from early speculative maps to modern technologies.
Hosted at the acclaimed Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) and convened by the Australian and New Zealand Map Society (ANZMapS), this two-day event examines the challenges, innovations, and lasting impacts of mapping some of the world’s most remote and extreme regions across the Southern Hemisphere’s vast oceans.
The program features a wide range of papers, rare map displays, and opportunities for conversation, collaboration, and connection.
