About the Society
The Australian and New Zealand Map Society (ANZMapS) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting the study, understanding, and appreciation of maps and cartography across the southern regions of the world.
The Society was established in 1973 as the Australian Map Curators’ Circle. It became the Australian Map Circle in 1983, and adopted its current name in 2009 following a merger with the New Zealand Map Society, founded in 1977.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in maps and mapping.
Membership in ANZMapS includes:
A subscription to The Globe (print and digital access)
• Discounted admission to the annual ANZMapS conference and symposia
• Early notification of calls for papers and conference announcements
• Invitations to special events, lectures, workshops, and exhibitions
• Opportunities to connect through the Society’s email discussion list
The Australian and New Zealand Map Society (ANZMapS) is committed to:
- Supporting research and public engagement in the history, creation, interpretation, and use of maps.
 - Encouraging collaboration and knowledge-sharing among individuals and institutions involved in maps and mapping.
 
These aims are pursued through two key undertakings :
The Annual Conference
Held in a different city each year, the conference brings together scholars, professionals, and map enthusiasts to exchange ideas and present new work. Topics range from historical and Indigenous cartographies to digital mapping, interpretation techniques, and emerging technologies.
The Globe (Journal of ANZMapS)
The Society’s longstanding scholarly journal, published twice a year.
It features original research, selected conference papers, and other contributions from across the mapping community..
