The Dorothy Prescott Prize is awarded to the author of the best paper presented at each ANZMapS Conference, as judged by a panel appointed by the ANZMapS President. The prize has been awarded annually since 2010.

Dorothy Prescott OAM is an Honorary Fellow at the School of Social and Environmental Enquiry, University of Melbourne. She received the Order of Australia in June 2003 for her services to map librarianship and cartobibliography. She is a Member of the Australian Institute of Cartographers (MAIC) and was named Eminent Spatial Scientist of the Year by the Spatial Sciences Institute (Victorian Division) in 2004.

The Patricia Alonso Memorial Prize

The Patricia Alonso Memorial Prize was established in 1990 to commemorate Patricia Alonso’s contribution to map librarianship through the Australian Map Circle (AMC), now the Australian and New Zealand Map Society (ANZMapS).

Originally awarded in alternate years by the Australian Map Circle and the Mapping Sciences Institute of Australia (MSIA), the prize recognised the student with the best third-year results in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Multimedia Cartography) degree at RMIT University (known as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology until 1992).

It is now awarded annually by ANZMapS to the student achieving the best third-year results in RMIT’s Bachelor of Science (Geospatial Science) degree.

The prize consists of $500 and one year’s membership in ANZMapS.
